Challenges

2022

Shelley Bell has stepped in to design and coordinate monthly challenges for fun and well to challenge us beyond our comfort zones! Thank you Shelley. Shelley will set each months’ parameters and following that months’ General Meeting, each members’ contribution photo forwarded for Show & Tell, will be added to this page.

May Challenge:

The May challenge is letters and words. You could use single words, like your word of the year or another meaningful word, or you might choose to add a favorite quote to your quilt. For our members who are interested in social action quilts, this is a great opportunity to make an important statement! Your lettering can be curvy and whimsical or geometrical block letters and they can be pieced, appliqued, fused or embroidered by hand or machine.

If you would like some instruction or maybe learn another way of adding letters to your quilts, I’m sure there are good video tutorials on YouTube. If you are a member of The Quilt Show (thequiltshow.com), good shows are #0907 Word Quilts with Tonya Riccuci and Show #1610 How to Put Letters on Quilts with Joanne Sharpe. Craftsy.com has Word Play – Personalize your Quilts with Sarah Fielke and Learn to Stitch Free-Motion Script with Heather Thomas.

April Challenge:

The challenge for April is improv curves with 2 curves per block and four solid colors.  There are so many really fun ways to arrange these blocks. To correctly size your block, add 1″ per curve to get the right side for their block.   For example, to get a 6″ block with two curves, you need to start with an 8″ block. HERE is a link to a video tutorial for improv circles.

March Challenge:

Green stripes with the use of negative space.
